It’s not, to be honest, usually a great sign for a wedding photographer when you check the news the night before a wedding and the headline news is a weather bomb. And in the end, the weather did get pretty crazy for a while, but it absolutely didn’t put a damper on Susie & Mitch’s wedding day, not a bit. The Tea Garden was a stunning venue for (as Susie put it) 112 of their nearest & dearest to share in a fantastic celebration that was filled with so much laughter, you couldn’t hear the rain anyway!

Yesterday was Matt & Lisa’s wedding at Wallaceville House. If there’s one thing that makes a wedding photographer’s life easier, it’s couples like these two who are completely at ease with each other and smile just because. As the saying goes, and I realised after this was in their ceremony how true it was for Matt & Lisa - may you love deeply, laugh heartily, practice patience and smile often. Couldn’t be more true in this case, as you can see! Congratulations to you both.

Shae & James – 18.02.2012

We photographed Shae & James’ wedding last weekend at Erskine, which sadly might be one of the last times we get to shoot there as the gorgeous old building now requires earthquake strengthening. One of the best things about their wedding was that I don’t have to think of what to write here – everyone said it for me when they spoke about these two, so I’m just paraphrasing! Shae was an elegant, classic bride, and the two of them both seemed relaxed and simply happy to be enjoying the day. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen that many tears shed at a wedding reception, which was so sweet to see. Both Shae and James, when they spoke about each other, said, simply…thank you for choosing me. A perfect sentiment, which says it all.

This wedding might look a little bit familiar to some. Remember this wedding? Yesterday we were lucky enough to revisit the same spot where Sam & Daya got married over a year ago – this time to photograph Daya’s brother Izzy’s wedding. The family property in Otaki is basically the perfect spot to hold the ultimate Kiwi backyard wedding, and Izzy & Sarah had made it even better by getting Lizz from Cut the Mustard to add some absolutely gorgeous details. Even though it threatened to rain, in the end the Wellington weather kicked in to make it a beautiful day for a celebration. These two made for some amazing pictures, and Sarah is indeed so gorgeous that, as her new husband put it, she puts the fairy in fairy lights! Thanks so much to the whole family for having us back – we had an awesome time!

Rachel & Brendan: 14.01.12

Just 24 hours before their wedding, Rachel & Brendan made the call to abandon the idea of an outside marquee wedding in favour of this option, a sweet wedding at the Raumati Scout Hall that they managed to create in just one day! As it turned out, the sun was shining and there was only a mild version of the coastal breeze on the day. Perfect conditions for both little ones and adults to enjoy a relaxed Kiwi wedding.

These guys are getting married in just over a month now, and we picked today, wind and all, for a quick engagement session in Upper Hutt. Just saying ‘wind’ is actually underselling a bit, as this was more like photos in a gale. Still, it was very easy shooting – Matt describes the two of them as being good at being ‘naturally silly’ and if that’s what it is then that’s what I like. If you find it easy to be happy and laugh in each other’s company, it makes for fantastic pictures. Speaking of which…

Christine & Dale were married Saturday at Old St Pauls in a gorgeous ceremony, followed by a celebration at Rydges. Their day was full of loads of adorable moments, a lot of which you can see in their photos! I especially love the look on Dale’s face as his gorgeous bride came down the aisle, and how happy they looked during their first dance. Enjoy.

Ros & Matt’s wedding took place this past weekend at St Mary of the Angels and Foxglove in Wellington. I can’t count the number of people during the day who said that every last detail was perfect, and I think that’s fairly self evident in the photos. From the beautiful Demetrios dress to the stunning work Piccadilly had done with the florals, to the little extra touches everywhere at the reception, this wedding was GORGEOUS. As was the bride! Not even an appearance off the bench of the infamous Wellington wind managed to put a dent in proceedings, and we had a wonderful time, enjoying every last minute of happiness on offer. Sarah & Ben’s wedding was a fun one for us, because we knew them already, so we were extra happy to see them get married at the stunning St Mary of the Angels. Wellington was having an absolutely amazing day that day, because both Parliament and Shelly Bay provided some pretty awesome stuff to work with. As did Sarah & Ben. The two of them are childhood sweethearts who have been together for eight years, which added a really sweet element to the day, because you could tell that everyone there felt like they’d seen this marriage in the making, and couldn’t be happier the big day was finally there. Also, they looked amazing! Congratulations, you two.
